We are on a road trip [can’t remember who is with me (Sharon, i think) or where we’re going] and we’ve been driving a really long way. Sharon tells me that my gas-light is on and i’d better stop somewhere. Apparently the light has been on a long time because it’s flashing and there’s a computer voice saying something about the gas being critically low and to stop and fill the tank immediately. I realize that the music we’ve been listening to drowned out the sound of the light coming on and feel a bit panicky. There happens to be a truck stop right ahead of us and i pull in, barely making it to the pump before the call stalls out. I get out to swipe my credit card to fill up the gas tank and see that it’s an old style pump and there’s no “pay at the pump” possible. I go back into my purse inside the car and get some cash out of my wallet and head to the store, assuming i would have to pay first. As i walk towards the store i check the bills in my hand to see how much money i have. I have some ones, a five and two twenty dollar bills and assume that should be plenty. I go into the store. It’s not well lit and kind of empty. There’s an old man sitting behind the desk/cash register in the far corner of the room so i approach, cash in hand, to tell him that i want to fill up my tank. He stands up and comes around to the outside of the desk and asks me to perform a ‘walk’ like models do on the catwalk. I try to do as he asks because even though he’s kind of odd, he’s not threatening or scary at all. I do a terrible job at the ‘walk’ and can tell he’s disappointed but it’s the best i can do. I leave and fill up my tank. I’m surprised how fast the pump works and have to be careful not to overfill the tank. When it gets nearly full, a thick foamy black substance is being forced out of the tank. It’s the gunk from the bottom of the tank and i’m concerned that by stirring up all that ick my car may not run well. [Scene shift]. Scott and i are in a house. I’m standing in a living room. The gas-station man and his wife (it’s their house) are dressed up to go out. The man is cleaned up and in a suit; his wife is bleach blond the same age as the man. She isn’t dressed up very fancy but she looks nice and i admire her outfit. She smiles and says something about her ?pants. She seems nice. I like her. They leave the house through the front door.
Now it’s me, Scott, and three other guys about Scott’s age in the room. The room is kind of bare – just a couple of upholstered chairs, a matching upholstered couch, an old television set, wood floor in need of polishing, no carpet. I’m sitting on the floor, wearing summer clothes and ?putting polish on my toes. The guys are talking about the gas-station man and about his ‘catwalk’ request. [second level of dreaming now] We’re reliving a memory of the gas-station man and seeing through his eyes. He’s sitting at his desk in the dimly-lit gas station gazing at a picture. It’s a picture of his wife when she was young. She was very beautiful and sexy. In the picture she’s got a dress with a plunging neckline that shows off her cleavage and her hands are palm up with her fingers gently curved inward like a “come here” gesture. The picture begins to move (i guess it’s how the man remembers the time when the picture was taken) and the woman is doing a beautiful “model walk” and is very sexy. She walks up and back, swishing her luscious body. When she gets to the point furthest from the man, she turns and walks back towards him. As she is almost face to face with him she stops and does the “come here” gesture and the scene freezes again into the photograph. The man is helplessly in love/lust with the remembered image and wants to recreate the moment. [back to the room with Scott and the others] Now i understand that the gas-station man wanted me to do the model-walk because he’s looking for another woman who can affect him like his wife did. I mention i’m getting cold and get up to change into something that covers more skin when one of the boys in one of the upholstered chairs reaches up on the wall to the thermostat and turns on the heat. I tell him not to do that, to put it back where it was because the gas-station man will notice the room is warm when he gets home and it’s a waste because before you turn up the heat you should put on more clothes. He turns it back down and i go into a bedroom that’s off the room we’ve been sitting in. My suitcase is under the bed and i pull it out to see what i can change to. There’s not much in the suitcase but there’s one pair of jeans and some skirts and stockings. I’m concerned that i don’t have enough clothes and i don’t have the right kind of clothes. [dream shift] I go back to the living room and Debbie is there. It’s her apartment in Pacifica. She’s showing me her new television set that she got to replace her old ‘cabinet model’ one she had. [dream shift] Outside of the gas-station man’s house i see a neighbor man (who looks a lot like the gas station man) looking out the window of his house across the street. His dog, a golden retriever is running around in his front yard looking at petunias growing in the flower beds on either side of the driveway. [scene shift looking through the eyes of the neighbor man] I see flowers from the perspective of the dog running around in the front yard AND i see the house across the street and the woman looking out the window at me from my own perspective. [scene shift back to my own perspective] I can tell there’s something weird about the dogs eye and realize it’s not real. It’s a camera eye and i realize the dog owner can see everything that the dog picks up with the camera. The man’s brain acts as an auxiliary hard-drive and can store still images if he “clicks” on an image the dog is seeing. Me’n Scott and the others are in the living room of the gas-station man’s house when i see the neighbor man and dog looking in the front window. I don’t want him to take pictures of us and move to duck. I realize the dog’s vision is blocked by the back of the couch and think that we’ll be okay but the man sticks his head up so HE can see us and i realize he’s taking a picture just by seeing us and realize the dog just has to be there acting as the camera but either set of eyes (dogs or mans) can select the ‘picture’. [wake up]
