hate it when that happens

I’m in my car, waiting in a long traffic line at the airport in the middle of nowhere. I’m there to pick up Claudia, who’s flying in from Greensboro. It’s a long, long wait and the line of cars moves little bits now and then. The parking lot is just a big cow pasture and there aren’t really any lanes but somehow everybody is being cooperative. Finally i drive into the giant barn-like structure so i know i must be getting close to the pick-up place. I realize that if i get up there and Claudia isn’t waiting, i’ll have to start all over at the end of the line so i pull out my cell phone and turn it on to call her. Just as i do that, i hear my name called over the loud speaker. “Lesley Olson, please pick up the nearest courtesy telephone.” The line of cars i’m in is making a turn and right in front of the car two up i see there’s a telephone on the wall of the barn. I jump out of my car and pick it up. It turns out to be a message from Claudia that she missed the flight and won’t be coming after all. The messenger voice is a man and he can tell i’m disappointed and offers some condolences or something. Asks me some questions. I’m standing next the idling cars wearing an oversized windbreaker jacket. Something is in my pocket. I think it’s my keys and phone and something else i value. Disappointed but accepting, i go back to my car and get in to drive away. After i drive out of the barn i realize “Hey! This is not my car!” and realize that somebody has stolen my car and left me an older version of the same make/model. I can’t figure out why my key works on this other car and why i didn’t notice it was red and black right away, when my car is silver (my previous car that was totaled by a pizza hut delivery boy was silver). I don’t know what i need to do so i call the police from my cell phone and try to explain what happened but don’t really know. The policeman suggests that my pocket was picked while i was on the courtesy phone and the thief switched keys. It seemed possible but i’m getting really pissed because it seems that i’m just going to be stuck with this old ratty car now unless i buy a new one and the car i want to buy doesn’t come out until 2011.
